Buffaloes in Sapa

The story

Situation

We chose three families in Sapa, Lao Cai (Vietnam). Due to their financial situation, these families needed all the help they could get to work their rice fields, including from their teenage children. This meant the children had no time to attend classes.
What we did

We spoke to locals, to understand how we could help. We decided a couple of buffaloes would provide great help in doing the heavy work!

How did we finance the project?

E-ducare (then called Fairtour, Ed.) launched an awareness campaign and organized a football match with the Italian actors’ national football team. We also received private donations and support from friends in Italy.

The outcome

All three families can now work their rice fields without help from their children, who are free to attend school.

Fishing boat in South Vietnam

The story

Situation Mr. Toan and his wife live in Bohao Village (Dong nai Province). Working as a fisherman, Mr. Toan earned $10 a day. With four children (aged 4 to 13), that was not enough for the family, so his two older children also had to work.

What we did Since Mr Toan already knew how to fish, we decided to buy him a boat instead, so he could work for himself.

How did we finance the project? E-ducare (then called Fairtour, Ed.) launched a second awareness campaign and organized a second football match with the Italian actors’ national football team.We also received private donations and support from friends in Italy.

The outcome It took a while to get his business running but Mr. Toan is now self-sufficient and his children are attending school.

Small farm animals in Kien Giang Province

The story

Situation Giong Giang (Kien Giang province). Several families have children in school age who are forced to work in farms, catching snails in the river, collecting seaweed or selling scratch cards. Without an education, they get married at an early age and become stuck in a vicious circle of poverty.

What we did We decided to start a project to support those families to generate their own income creating small farms, so their children would be free to attend school.

How did we finance the project? E-ducare organized a concert with support from Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin and the talented musicians Katrina Hunke, Dermot Dunne, and Malachy Robinson.

The outcome We raised enough money to give an opportunity to 22 children aged 6-15 to get their right to education by creating small farms for their families.
